History

7CAE FM was licensed in early 1977 under the auspices of the Tasmanian College of Advanced Education at Mt Nelson.

When the College  relocated to Launceston in 1980 Hobart FM Incorporated assumed full responsibility for the running of the station,  moved  to premises in Elizabeth Street,  Hobart and provided a lively and alternative radio service under the name 7THE FM (92FM).

In 1992 the station moved to Alma Street, Bellerive and subsequently adopted the name Hobart FM. During this period the programming had a strong country music flavour.

In 2016 Hobart FM altered its music policy and moved to a more general format across the daytime, allocating time for specialist music and language programs in the evenings and during the weekend.

In 2024, with the support of the Clarence City Council, Hobart FM moved its broadcast facilities to the Howrah Community Centre in Howrah Road.

Today Hobart FM is a valued part of the Hobart radio community, programming for the 50+ demographic.
